During the Irish War of Independence, Orphan Johnny Dunne works long hours at a hotel in a small town. His best friends are Alice, whose father owns the hotel, and Stella, whose father is an army officer stationed nearby. Their lives are disrupted when the Black and Tans take over the local army camp. But it's Johnny's secret role, spying for the soldiers who frequent the hotel, which really puts him in danger. And Stella and Alice have difficult decisions to make when the Black and Tans run amok during a murderous night of vengeance. Ages 10 and up.
